What indoor plant is goodlooking and easy to care for? I am wanting to buy a small indoor plant to have in my room but I'm not sure what to buy. I want something that looks good and is easy to care for. I live in Las Vegas, NV so that might affect what suggestions you give me. I would like something different then the average indoor plants as in another place in my apartment I have a small Moneytree. Would appreciate any advice. Would a Sago Palm be good? Doudou replied: "Spider plant; grows to the size you want, really, according to how much care you give, but essentially very easy to look after -I had one as a child."
Exoilfeildtrash replied: "Ivys they are very easy to care for when ever they start looking ruff water them and they perk right up."
glenn t replied: "sago palm would be good if it is in a sunny locale. sanseveria=snake's tongue, pothos, croton, peace lily"
Turd Furgeson replied: "Many species of green stem bamboo plants. All you need is some rocks and water and bam, your done and don't need to do anything more but refill the water when its totally gone, which takes months, so you wont need to be doing it much. Also, it requires very little light so you can place it anywhere as long as it gets some light."
xXxEmmaxXx replied: "a cactus you can get them in all shapes and sizes and the great thing is you only have to water them once a month! also spider plants are good.
Emma
xXx"
Joe replied: "Venus Fly trap. You can feed them raw meat. It's like a dog that eats portions the size of a fly. They're also very interesting."
Brian P replied: "u could pick up a bamboo plant at costco. There always fun and ez to take care of"
Your dady. replied: "Listen. Lets be honest. We all know that a sago palm is the most pathetic plant you could buy.
Here in South Africa we have the best taste in indoor plants.
I have the perfect tree for you. Its called Durban Poizon. It is an awesome type of WEED that is bound to get you bouncing off the walls in no time.
It is easy to take care of and realy cheap down here.
Come check it out bro." what is the difference between indoor and outdoor fans? i need to put a floor fan outside so that my doggies can keep cool. besides the cord getting wet if it's raining, what is really the difference between an indoor and outdoor fan? the indoor ones are usually a lot cheaper and i plan on bringing it in if i think it's going to rain. So i guess my real question is, can i use an indoor fan safely outside? If not where can i get an inexpensive outdoor one? JoAnn N replied: "The main difference between the outdoor fans and indoor fans is that outdoor fans are usually made of materials such as plastics or resin that can withstand humidity or moisture. They also can be made of woods that do not rot easily or have been treated with a special type of outside coating. Many of these fans are made of metal, but come with a rubber or plastic covering to keep them lasting a long time."
~*~G*ypsy~*~ replied: "There is stainless steel & marine steel type of fans you can get. They are 2 types of grades (quality) that I am aware. Marine is a higher quality. I think its 380 is the highest metal grade quality. They are better quality, the more weather protected it is. The woven fans are alright for alfresco areas also. (depends on how weather proof the area is). Places like beacon lighting have those sorts of fans. But most lighting places should have fans stocked." I have an indoor fireplace, can I open it up from the outside and have a functional indoor/outdoor fireplace? My livingroom fireplace is on an exterior wall that faces my pool. I've always wanted to break an opening from the outside of the house so it can function both as and indoor and outdoor fireplace. Is my idea possible? Sophie B replied: "If you live in a warm climate you could do that....anywhere north of Florida in the winter. you would freeze to death...."
Kevin replied: "Most construction/remodeling type companies offer free estimates (especially now with the housing market in decline) so I would call a few. Have them out and explain what you want. See if they say it's possible or not, or if the cost would be worth doing it anyway.
Sounds like a cool idea! I bet it's possible, with some sort of hinged-metal door on both sides. You'd have to be able to close it up on the inside if you were using it outside, I think, due to winds and the strong possibilty of your living room catching on fire. Even with this door-type thing, it would make your LR drafty in the winter probably.
But just ask, because someone, somewhere can probably figure out a way to do this. If you hear "it can't be done" from two companies, I'd try again because they may just not know how, or may not want to undertake such a unique task. Good luck to you, though, I hope it can be done!"
Bricky Local 9 PA replied: "you would need to tear out and lay up a new firebox and i dont know how you would support the damper and the weight of all your flue liners to do this...myself , i wouldn't try it..." Where do you buy indoor plants for your home? I am serious, I feel like I forgot some completely obvious source for indoor plants. I know that you can usually go to nurseries for outdoor plants, but most nurseries here (Maryland) are closed for the winter. So where do you go to buy healthy indoor plants? grateful replied: "anywhere! your local super market should have some (like Kmart, Walmart, Meijer, any of them!)
or a Franks Nursery, Home Depot maybe...
or look in your phone book for some plant shops, even the ones that sell/deliver flowers would have them.
or put out and ad somewhere for any clippings. I always get clippings from my Mother"
Denise S replied: "Large grocery chain stores such as Walmarts, Stop & Shop, Hannaford, KMart, etc. Also you can find house plants at Florist Shops." What indoor plants can make a room smell good? I'm really curious if there are some strong scented indoor plants? The only one I can think of is lavender. ETee replied: "Jasmine plant.
Mmmm... Smells delicious. & pretty too!"
ladybugluver1300 replied: "Calathea plants"
fluffy the wonderdog replied: "what other plant do you need if you have lavender you have it alll!!!!!!
there is a camphor, plant that is easy to grow.
and it is fragrant 24/7
EDIT
if you have a very high light area you could grow fragrant geraniums. There are many fragrant varieties of geraniums: apple, peppermint, chocolate mint, pineapple, nutmeg, ginger, lemon, lime, apricot, etc."
Keith M replied: "corn, tomatoes, water mellon, green beans.." What are some good indoor plants that keep the air smelling fresh and pleasant? I'm looking for some good indoor plants that emit a pleasant aroma and keep the indoor air smelling fresh. Natey Matey replied: "Air Wick lol"
LaWeezel replied: "I've heard that spider plants are one of the best for cleaning the air indoors. They do not emit their own odor, though.
If you want a delicious scent, get a jasmine plant. mmm yummy! and hang a few spider plants around too, as air filters. The spider plant likes filtered light, not direct sun. The jasmine likes direct sun."
claire replied: "A Boston Fern is great for cleaning the air.
All plants will clean the air though." What indoor plants are good for the northern climates? Living in Canada, I need to know what indoor plants will be best for growth. Something that requires less sunlight and can survive the brisk winds that sometimes enter into the house. bobthebuilder replied: "We live in Washington, U.S.
Our Ficus tree does very well even with the dark winter months. Believe it or not, our Date Palm is also doing fine (I feep it right near a picture window so that, when there is sun, it gets it).
They keep our spirits up during the long winters."
Julia R replied: "A good plant to have in your house is an Amaryllis. I have a couple around my house and they grow fine in the cold weather. They don't require too much sunlight, either. You can get them anywhere, I think I got mine at Target."
Lighthouse 002 replied: "I have some ivy that grow in the cold nicely also couple of Bamboo plants. Both types only require indirect light. You can never go right with Spider plants they grow any where ."
Miz Val replied: "I have a jade that is rumored to thrive in cooler climates." Whats the difference between indoor and outdoor tanning lotion? Ok, so besides the obvious, that one is for indoor tanning and one for outdoor, and that outdoor lotion may or may not have SPF, what are the differences?
Can one use outdoor tanning lotion in a tanning booth?
Does one specifically need to buy indoor tanning lotion for a tanning booth? sweet sensimilla replied: "outdoor lotions have mineral oil and other ingrediants that damage the acrlyics of the beds. they usually check lotions and salons and even if not you may have to pay alot of money to get the acrylics replaced if you ruin them with your cheap lotion. you can use an indoor lotion outdoors but not the other way around"
Chabela replied: "An outdoor tanning lotion will not accelerate your tan in a tanning booth.
An indoor tanning lotion will not accelerate your tan outdoors.
This is because the sun and the heat lamps in a tanning bed are different.
The lotions react on your skin differently with the UV rays from the sun or the bed bulbs." How long can most indoor cats live to be? I have a 3 year old Himalayan and my husband and I love her sooo much! We don't have any children so she's our baby. We take good care of her, take her to the vet regularly, keep her up to date on her shots, and do everything we can to make sure she stays healthy. She's strictly an indoor cat, although sometimes I take her outside on a leash in the summer and let her walk around our backyard.
We were wondering how long indoor cats can expect to live? pacificpablo replied: "12 or 14"
Denise P replied: "20+ YEARS"
Molly C replied: "I have a cat who's 19 years old and she's doing just fine!"
Upnorthgal40 replied: "Indoor only cats that are spayed/neutered can live to an old age of 20 to 30 years with advanced technology."
valkyrie_queen22 replied: "Many can live as long as 19 or 20 with the proper care and provided no serious health problems develop. On average, I'd say 14-15 years."
Clare replied: "Ours lived to be 19, but I've heard of some breed living to be in their 30's!"
Elissa. replied: "The average lifespan is from about 12-16 years...that's a pretty long life. =)"
daddyjohndeer replied: "Approx 13-15 yrs.Ive seen some go to 20 yrs but the last 4-5 yrs were kinda yucky."
don r replied: "Mine is 14 and just now starting to show his age. I've heard of indoor cats living into their early 20s."
Skirmish17 replied: "I've had cats who lived 27yr, 25yr, 24yr, 22yr, & 20yr. Love, care & good INSIDE home can make a world of difference. Avg for outside cats is around 6-7yr if lucky."
Janiepoo replied: "I think about 15-17 is average, My grandma and grandpa's cats were all in there mid to late 20's when they passed. If they are indoor cats that are healthy, they can live quite a long time."
Tessa replied: "average 15 yrs and I know one cat that is 22 yrs. old."
Barbara B replied: "Each cat is different, but indoor cats in general live about 5 years longer than outdoor cats. Mine lived to be 15 and 16 years old. The younger one actually died first, so you just never know. Love her like you have been and try to enjoy each day, but the end always comes evenutally, you can never really prepare for it, but you baby is still young, so you should have a lot of great years to come."
canadian_beaver1980 replied: "healthy, indoor and spayed or neutered cats can live 20 years more but I belive the average is 14 - 16 years"
catslave replied: "I have 1 cat that is 16 yo and another that is 17 yo. According to The Cornell Feline Health Center a cat at age 2 is equal to a human at age 21 and every additional year a cat lives it ages 4 human years. So my cats are equal to humans at age 77 and 81. The exceptional cat that gets past 20 years old is like a human at age 93. Although indoor cats can live well into their 20s the norm is 16-17 years.
My cats are showing their ages now and I expect to only have them another year or 2 and that's okay because I can only enjoy them for as long as they enjoy their quality of life.
It sounds as if you take good care of your little one and that's all you can do. Enjoy and love her while you have her, don't waste time worrying about how long you have to do it. No one can say how long any of us will be around.
Live well."
D J replied: "Keep her well and she could live to be 20 to 30 years old. I had a Siamese tat lived th be 33, and then we have to put her down. She was suffering by was not close to death.
Good Luck with you new "baby""
Sweety replied: "15 to 20 years is the average age but some live longer and some die young it depends on the bred as well as health"
Pat replied: "We had a neighbor once that had many cats over the years, one was 22yrs when it passed another was 19, 17, etc. The last one was only 9, she died of cancer. Each & every one of them knew a life full of love."
butterscotch replied: "13 to 16"
birdgirl replied: "My strictly indoor cat lived to be 19 years old. I would say your cat can live to this age or longer if she continues to be healthly. I assume she is spayed too? This will also lengthen her life."
Elaine M replied: "My vet has a lot of 20, 22 and 23 year old cats she sees at her practice. Older cats are now way above the old 'fifteen years' mark.
I lost one to cancer at age 20, my Siamese got up to 19, my longhair was also 19 when she went into renal failure. Right now I have a 16, a 13 and a 12 year old cat." Is vigorous indoor play just as good as outdoor play for a little dog? I of course still take him outside every day for potty breaks and short walks, but as the weather turns will indoor play in a large open space be just as effective? Bozema replied: "For most small dogs that should be fine."
learning curve replied: "yes, but be sure the length of play time and the level of intensity is enough to wear him out. also, weather permitting, be sure to still take him outside for some play time and sunshine."
hockey_is_life77 replied: "absolutely! get a couple tug toys and/or tennis balls. play actively with your dog...it will run circles around all over."
joanne m replied: "Any play is good indoors or outdoors my 3 dogs enjoy play better sometimes indoors if they can get my attention away from something and tuned into them, my old dog cant be bothered outside most of the time but still runs off with my slippers wanting me to chase her."
chihuahuamom replied: "yes most small dogs love the inside play just make sure you move all the coffee tables ect out of the way"
Suz replied: "A dog NEEDS the stimulus of outdoor exercise for its mental wellbeing, yes indoor play will drain his physical energy but a walk involves mental exercise as well as physical exercise.
Dog ownership is an all weather commitment and that involves exercising them no matter what the weather (they love it even if we owners would rather be indoors!!) by your dog a suitable dog coat if you are worried about him feeling the cold.
Have fun indoors playing games of fetch and a good indoor game is hiding a treat somewhere in the house without letting your dog see where then letting them hunt for it and don't forget obedience training can be done indoors too, this exercises them mind and body"
>>Phoenix<< replied: "As long as your pup gets a little fresh air & sunshine....& access to a bit of grass to nibble when his stomach is upset....he should do very well with indoor play.
You puppy is lucky to have someone to care enough to play with him. A lot of dog owners just don't seem to have the time."
2Westies replied: "We've had some brutally cold, unsafe outdoor winter weather here in the midwest which means my small dogs can't go out to exercise. When this happens I throw a ball down my long hallway which leads into the bathroom. I do this for 15 minutes sessions several times a day and the dogs are very happy to play this game. I've heard of people who put their dogs on a treadmill for workouts, but I haven't tried that. I don't look forward to being cooped up, but do what I can to exercise my dogs inside." |
